Totaline Thermostat Troubleshooting

These instructions provide simple and short troubleshooting guidelines for the most popular Totaline thermostat models. In each manual, you will find the list of the most widespread technical malfunctions, possible causes and the ways to fix the issues. These tables will help you if there’s no power supply, the display doesn’t work, or a thermostat doesn’t emit heat.

Totaline Smart 1H1C Thermostat Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Display is blankCheck circuit breaker and reset if necessary.
Make sure power switch at heating & cooling system is on.
Make sure furnace door is closed securely.
If thermostat is battery powered, make sure fresh AA alkaline batteries are correctly installed
Heating or cooling system does not respondPress SYSTEM button to set system to Heat. Make sure the temperature is set higher than the Inside temperature.
Press SYSTEM button to set system to Cool. Make sure the temperature is set lower than the Inside temperature.
Check circuit breaker and reset if necessary.
Make sure power switch at heating & cooling system is on.
Make sure furnace door is closed securely.
Wait 5 minutes for the system to respond.

Totaline P274-1100 Thermostat Troubleshooting

PROBLEMSOLUTION
“ – “ on temperature displayTemperature sensor reading out of range. Check sensor for damage. If recessing power does not clear display, thermostat should be replaced.
“E2” on temperature displayBrownout condition or too low of voltage to thermostat. Double check wiring and check for 24 vac between R and C. E2 will clear 15 seconds after proper voltage is restored.
“E3” on temperature displayCheck out- door temperature sensor and its wiring.
“Clean Filter” on temperature displayAfter the selected number of hours of blower operation, the CLEAN FILTER indicator will display. This is to remind the homeowner to check the filter. Press the Reset Filter button to clear display and reset timer to 0.
Cooling will not come onSelect COOL mode. Decrease the cooling setpoint to 10 degrees below room temperature. Simultaneously press the Up Arrow and Fan buttons together (increase temperature). Check for 24 vac at Y/Y2 terminal. If present, the thermostat is OK and the problem is with equipment or wiring. If not present, replace the thermostat.
Heating will not come onSelect HEAT mode. Increase the heating setpoint to 10 degrees above room tem- perature. Simultaneously press the Up Arrow and Fan buttons together (increase temperature). Check for 24 vac at Y/Y2 (with HP) or WA/V1 (with AC) terminal. If present, the thermostat is OK and the problem is with equipment or wiring. If not present, replace the thermostat.

Totaline Basic 1H1C Thermostat Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Screen is blank.Check circuit breaker and reset if necessary.
Ensure the heating/cooling system is powered up.
Ensure the furnace door is properly closed.
Ensure two fresh AAA alkaline batteries are correctly installed.
Temperature settings cannot be changed.The System switch is off.
You are setting the temperatures outside their allowable ranges:
• Heat: 40 °F to 90 °F (4.5 °C to 32 °C).
• Cool: 50 °F to 99 °F (10 °C to 37 °C).
Cool or Heat A is flashing.The compressor protection delay has been activated. Wait for the delay to end (maximum of 5 minutes).
HI appears on the screen.The ambient (measured) temperature is above 122 °F (50 °C).
LO appears on the screen.The ambient (measured) temperature is below 32 °F (0 °C).
E1 appears on the screen.The temperature sensor circuit is opened. Replace the thermostat.
E2 appears on the screen.The temperature sensor circuit is shorted. Replace the thermostat.

Totaline Deluxe 1H1C Thermostat Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Display is blankCheck circuit breaker and reset if necessary.
Make sure power switch at heating & cooling system is on.
Make sure furnace door is closed securely.
If thermostat is battery powered, make sure fresh AAA alkaline batteries are correctly installed
No response to key presses (or temperature will not change)Check to make sure the thermostat is not locked
Make sure heating and cooling temperatures are set to acceptable range
Backlight is dimIf thermostat is battery powered, make sure fresh AAA alkaline batteries are correctly installed
If thermostat is AC powered, a dim display is normal. The backlight remains on at a low level, and brightens when a key is pressed.
Heating or cooling system does not respondPress SYSTEM to set system to Heat. Make sure the temperature is set higher than the Inside temperature.
Press SYSTEM to set system to Cool. Make sure the temperature is set lower than the Inside temperature.
Check circuit breaker and reset if necessary.
Make sure power switch at heating & cooling system is on.
Make sure furnace door is closed securely.
Display shows Fan Auto and On or Auto and Circ at the same timeThis is normal operation. Auto indicates the thermostat is following the programmed fan setting. If Auto and On is shown (or Auto and Circ), the fan is scheduled for “On” (or Circ) during this period

Totaline TotalTouch P286-1600 Thermostat Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
Touch screen buttons do not function properly.Remove cover, press the reset but- ton located in the bottom left corner then accurately touch 3 target centers on the screen when prompted
Air Conditioning does not turn on even when room temperature is higher then the temperature set point set point (Humidity models only).DHCONTROLCOMP is turned ON and dehumidify set point has been reached.
Air conditioning turns on in HEAT mode and heating turns on in COOL mode.Reverse the OBW valve

I forgot my PIN and cannot unlock the thermostat.Remove the cover plate, press the reset button located in the bottom right comer, as soon as the message “touch to reset password” appears touch the screen, your PIN will be erased and the thermostat will unlock
